Mets score late to notch 9-4 win over Phils; count hits 7,407

The Mets scored six runs in the final two innings Saturday night to earn a well-needed come-from-behind 9-4 victory over the first place Philadelphia Phillies.

Starter John Maine held Philadelphia hitless through three innings, but the first hit hurt as Ryan Howard blasted a three-run homer to left with one out in the bottom of the fourth. That advanced our NoNoHitters.com count to 7,407 New York Mets games without a no-hitter, and also erased the Mets’ three-run lead.

The Phillies pulled ahead on a Jayson Werth single in the seventh, but the Mets answered back with three runs in the eight when Damion Easley scored on a wild pitch and Brian Schneider hit a pinch-hit two-run double.
