7,545: Homers hurt Mets in Baltimore

Killed by the longball

Aubrey Huff hit a seventh-inning homer off reliever Pedro Feliciano Wednesday night to break a 4-4 tie and lead the Baltimore Orioles to a 6-4 win at Camden Yards.

Mets starter Tim Redding threw 5 2/3 innings, giving up four earned runs on seven hits and a pair of walks. He lost his no-hitter in the first inning when Nick Markakis singled to right, making it 7,545 New York Mets games without a no-no.

Matt Wieters tagged Redding in the second for his first Major League home run to give the Orioles a 3-1 lead. Huff’s homer came after the Mets rallied to tie the game on a Gary Sheffield home run and a bases-loaded walk to Alex Cora.
