The Mets scored the go-ahead run in the third inning on an Alex Cora single. Ike Davis hit a solo homer in the sixth inning, and Josh Thole added an RBI single in the eighth.

Where’s the offense?

Tim Hudson shut out the Mets for seven innings and the Braves’ bullpen finished the job Saturday as Atlanta topped New York 4-0 at Citi Field.

Mets starter Mike Pelfrey got pounded for 12 hits in just four innings of work, giving up four earned runs and walking three. He lost his no-hitter on a first-inning Brian McCann single, bumping our NoNoHitters.com count to 7,731 New York Mets games with no no-no.

Hudson gave up just four hits (three of them from Angel Pagan) and two walks in his start.

Dickey threw for 6 2/3 innings, yielding four runs (three of them earned) on nine hits and two walks while striking out six. He lost his no-hitter in the first inning on a Melky Cabrera single, moving our NoNoHitters.com count to 7,730 New York Mets games with no no-no.

7,684: Wright’s 9th-inning error hands Braves walk-off win

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010
Another way to lose

David Wright’s throwing error on a chopper to third handed the Atlanta Braves a 3-2 walk-off win at Turner Field Tuesday night.

Melky Cabrera was forced to swing the bat after fouling two bunt attempts, and the wild throw allowed Brent Clevlen to score the winning run. Former Met Billy Wagner took the “W.”

Troy Glaus’ third-inning two-run homer was the only blemish on Mets starter Johan Santana’s line, which was 7 innings and those two earned runs on five hits and a pair of walks. Santana struck out four, and he lost his no-hitter on a first-inning single by Jason Heyward, moving the NoNoHitters.com count up to 7,684 New York Mets games without a no-no.

Solo homers in the fifth by Ike Davis and Jeff Francoeur tied the game at 2.

Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey, called up from AAA Buffalo, gets the start Wednesday against the Nationals.

7,683: Mets snap 5-game losing streak with 3-2 win over Braves

Monday, May 17th, 2010
Let’s Go Mets

Mike Pelfrey had his longest outing of the year Monday, throwing 7 2/3 innings of two-run ball to lead the New York Mets to a 3-2 win over the Atlanta Braves to snap a five-game losing streak.

Pelfrey allowed just seven hits and two walks, losing his no-hitter on the first batter when Martin Prado lead off with a single. That advances our NoNoHitters.com count to 7,683 New York Mets games with no no-no and cements Pelfrey’s standing atop the current starters section of our No-hitters killed by first at bat page with 24, far exceeding Oliver Perez’s 17.

The Mets won the game despite getting only 5 hits, with catcher Rod Barajas leading the way with a 2-for-4 night, including a two-RBI double. Chris Carter (1-for-2) got the other RBI on a ground-out.

7,663: Mets take series from Braves with rain-shortened win

Sunday, April 25th, 2010
One is enough

Jose Reyes manufactured a first-inning run to lead the New York Mets to a rain-shortened 1-0 win over the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field.

After reaching base on a bloop single, Reyes stole second and then headed toward third on a Jason Bay grounder to third. Chipper Jones fielded the ball nicely but muffed the throw to first, and Reyes came all the way home.

Mike Pelfrey extended his scoreless inning streak to 24, but it took him 106 pitches to get through those five innings. He gave up five hits and five walks while striking out three.

Pelfrey lost his no-hitter in the first inning on a Brian McCann double, moving our NoNoHitters.com count to 7,663 New York Mets games with no no-no.

The downpour started just as the sixth inning began, and Raul Valdes threw a single strike before the umpires called for the tarp.

7,662: Mets top Braves 3-1, reach .500

Saturday, April 24th, 2010
Back to .500!

RBI doubles by Jason Bay and Jeff Francoeur and a run-scoring sac fly from Henry Blanco led the Mets to a 3-1 win over the Atlanta Braves as New York has reached the .500 mark.

The game featured just 11 hits, six by the Braves and five by the Mets, and Bay had three of them

Niese lost his no-hitter on a Jason Heyward second-inning single, raising our NoNoHitters.com count to 7,662 New York Mets games without one of these rare feats. Niese gave up five hits and five walks over 5 1/3 innings, striking out six along the way.

It was former Brave Manny Acosta who took the win, pitching 1 2/3 innings of hitless ball, while walking just one and fanning three.

7,661: Davis’ homer, triples from Reyes and Bay lift Mets

Friday, April 23rd, 2010
4 out of 5!

Ike Davis hit his first Major League homer and Jose Reyes and Jason Bay hit back-to-back triples Friday night to lead the New York Mets to a 5-2 win over the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field.

Davis’ fifth-inning blast traveled 450 feet through right-center field onto Shea Bridge, the same general direction where Reyes’ and Bay’s triples helped give the Mets a 3-2 lead in the sixth.

The Mets added a couple of runs in the seventh, and one of them was quite bizarre.

Reyes hit a short pop fly with one out and runners on first and second, and the infield fly rule handed resulted in the automatic out. But Chipper Jones dropped the ball and it rolled to catcher Brian McCann, who ran toward first base to tag out Reyes even though it was unnecessary.

That left home plate unoccupied, and third base coach Chip Hale alertly sent Angel Pagan sliding home for the Mets’ fourth run. Wright hit a run-scoring single for the Mets fifth run and his second RBI of the night.

Mets’ starter John Maine threw just 3 2/3 innings, leaving the game with elbow pain. He gave up an earned run on four hits and two walks while striking out three. He lost his no-hitter in the second inning on a Eric Hinske bunt single, advancing our NoNoHitters.com count to 7,661 New York Mets games without a no-no.

Hisanori Takahashi got the win with three solid innings of relief.

7,573: Injury list grows as Mets lose 7-1

Sunday, July 19th, 2009
Stop the insanity

Mets starter Fernando Nieve was forced out of the game in the second inning Sunday as injuries continued to plague the team during a 7-1 loss in Atlanta.

Nieve left with a no-hitter still alive – only the 12th time in Mets franchise history that’s happened. We’ve chronicled it and the 11 others in this post.

Two batters into Tim Redding’s relief appearance, Yunel Escobar blasted a homer to kill the no-hitter and give the Braves their first run making it 7,573 games without a no-no. Redding pitched three innings, yielding five runs (two of them earned) on four hits and three walks.

7,572: Santana pitches Mets to victory over Braves

Saturday, July 18th, 2009
Save your brooms, Braves fans

Johan Santana threw seven innings of scoreless ball Saturday to lead the Mets to a 5-1 win over the Atlanta Braves, so at least the series sweep is off the table.

Santana gave up just five hits and two walks while striking out five. He lost his no-hitter in the first inning on a Martin Prado double, advancing our NoNoHitters.com count to 7,572 New York Mets games without a no-no.

The Mets broke the scoreless tie in the sixth when Jeremy Reed drew a bases-loaded walk and David Wright scored on an Omir Santos ground-ball fielder’s choice.

Chipper Jones tagged Pedro Feliciano for a homer in the eighth to cut the Braves’ deficit to one, but the Mets responded with three insurance runs in the top of the ninth. Angel Pagan tripled home Alex Cora, and Luis Castillo sacrificed home Pagan. Jeff Francour tallied an RBI against his former team by singling home Daniel Murphy.

Francisco Rodriguez pitched a perfect ninth to preserve Santana’s 11th win of the season.
