The Detroit Tigers’ Justin Verlander fell three outs short of throwing his third career no-hitter on Wednesday night, missing the milestone on Chris Iannetta’s ninth-inning double.

Verlander would have become only the sixth pitcher in baseball history to throw three no-nos, joining Larry Corcoran, Cy Young, Bob Feller, Sandy Koufax, Nolan Ryan in the exclusive club. Koufax threw a fourth no-no (a perfect game), and Ryan threw a total of seven no-hitters

Verlander struck out nine and walked 2 to lead the Tigers to a 5-0 victory against the Los Angeles Angels.

Verlander threw his first two no-nos against the Milwaukee Brewers in June 2007 and the Toronto Blue Jays in May 2011.
