Two New York teams, the 1952 Giants and the 2017 Yankees, own baseball’s two St. Patrick’s Day no-hitters.
On Monday, March 17, 1952, at Olive Memorial Stadium in Burbank, California, the Giants’ Jimmy Hearn pitched 5 innings of no-hit ball, striking out four Chicago Cubs and walking two. Monty Kennedy took the ball in the sixth and finished the no-hitter, striking out three and walking three for a 10-0 win.
On Friday, March 17, 2017, at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Florida, the Yankees’ Masahiro Tanaka tossed 4⅓ no-hit innings, walking two Detroit Tigers batters and striking out six. Chasen Shreve (⅔) and Jordan Montgomery (4) were perfect to close out the combined no-no for a 3-0 win.
