The Korea Baseball Organization has had 15 regular-season single-pitcher no-hitters and one postseason no-no (Jeong Myeong-won of the Hyundai Unicorns in Game 4 of the 1994 Korean Series) since the league was founded in 1981. There have also been three combined no-hitters, but they’re not considered official.
The KBO has had one Opening Day single-pitcher no-hitter (Jang Ho-yeon of the OB Bears in 1988) and one Opening Day combined no-hitter (the SSG Landers’ Wilmer Font with 9 perfect innings and Kim Taek-hyoung with 1 no-hit inning in 2022). There has never been a KBO perfect game, but Jeong Min-chul of the Hanwha Eagles came close. His 1997 no-hitter would have been a perfect game if a batter hadn’t reached first base on a dropped third strike.
Charles Shirek, a Minot, North Dakota native, is the first American to throw a Korean no-hitter.
