Darrin Reichle threw two no-hitters for the Charleston Rainbows and 6 innings of a combined no-no for the Riverside Red Wave.
Although no pitcher wearing an MLB San Diego Padres uniform threw a no-hitter before 2021, there have been 32 no-hitters thrown by Padres minor league pitchers since 1969.
The most prolific Padres minor-league no-no pitcher is Darrin Reichle, who threw two no-hitters (one 7-inning and one 9-inning) for the Charleston Rainbows within a 16-day span of 1988, and then threw 6 innings of a combined 9-inning no-no for the Riverside Red Wave in 1989. George Stablein of the PCL Hawaii Islanders has the distinction of throwing the only Padres minor-league no-hitter with the San Diego Chicken entertaining at the ballpark (June 1981).
Three Padres minor-league no-nos ended in losses: A Tri-City Padres combined no-no tossed in the Northwest League in 1970, the Hawaii Islanders’ Dave Freisleben’s 7-inning PCL no-no in 1973 and the Memphis Chicks’ Robbie Beckett’s 7-inning Southern League no-no in 1995.
Check out these and more Padres minor-league no-nos below. For a listing of all minor-league no-hitters, visit Chuck McGill’s page.
