Nick Maddox threw the Pirates’ first no-hitter in 1907, and he was followed by Cliff Chambers, Bob Moose, Dock Ellis, John Candalaria and a combined 10-inning no-hitter by Francisco Cordova and Ricardo Rincon.
Pittsburgh’s Forbes Field, which served as the Pirates’ home ballpark from 1909 through 1970, was shut out of the no-hitter experience. Not a single pitcher, throwing for either the home Pirates or the visitors over 61 years of games, ever pitched a no-hitter within the park’s confines.
